Matt Hartzell leads Smith’s administrative functions worldwide, overseeing our legal, accounting, human resources, and IT departments.
“We support the Intelligent Distribution™ model,” Matt said. “My role is to make sure our talented trading and operations people have all the resources, information, and assistance they need to keep growing the world’s best electronics distributor with greater service and efficiency.”
Two tried-and-true strengths enable Matt to get the job done. “I think the skills of listening and patience are underrated, and I try to bring those because that’s how problems get solved,” he said.
Matt joined Smith as General Counsel in 1998 and served as Chief Operating Officer from 2008 to 2014. Before his time with Smith, Matt was a commercial litigator with the firm of Hirsch & Westheimer. He received his BA from St. John’s College in Annapolis, Maryland, and his JD from the University of Houston. Matt is also on the board of directors of Allegiance Bancshares, Inc. in Houston.
When he’s off the clock, Matt pushes himself on the open road doing 100-mile bicycle rides across Texas.
“Resilience is about bending without breaking,” Matt said. “There are points during a ride where you’re expended but need to push on. It’s an inner challenge to surpass perceived limits.”
