Smith’s Journey With CDP: Driving Climate Action Together

Sustainability is increasingly becoming a shared priority across our industry, with an evergrowing number of customers requiring transparency around their supply chain partners’ environmental performance. Through unified effort and a collective drive for improvement, the technology industry can do its part in protecting the world.
Smith believes in building a resilient and sustainable future through accountability and collaboration. To that end, we are proud to announce we are sharing insights on our environmental impact through CDP (formerly known as the Carbon Disclosure Project), the world’s leading environmental-disclosure organization. Using the CDP platform, we will set, measure, track, and manage our targeted sustainability goals while providing visibility into our efforts.
Disclosing the results of these efforts reflects Smith’s commitment to positively influencing the world around us. As we continue our annual participation in CDP, we gain more awareness into how we can better develop new strategic partnerships with an eye toward sustainability and improve our existing partnerships across the value chain. Together, we can build a more resilient, ethical, and sustainable future.
Climate change and environmental concerns are challenges no company can solve alone. CDP provides a global platform for companies, suppliers, and investors to share information transparently, granting Smith access to the insights needed to create meaningful change. Leveraging the data we gain through the CDP disclosure process, Smith is able to better understand our needs and the needs of our customers.
As part of CDP’s corporate disclosure program, we evaluate our carbon footprint annually and share a detailed breakdown of our emissions through the platform’s Full Corporate Questionnaire. The questionnaire challenges us to examine our operations in detail by mapping climate-related risks and opportunities most relevant to us. This allows us to identify key areas where we can have the most impact across the value chain and take action to adapt to the challenges and mitigate the risks.
After the questionnaire is submitted, CDP provides us with an evaluation of our performance, highlighting both strengths and areas for growth compared to our industry peers. This continual cycle of disclosure and feedback enables us to see the full scope of our impact, refine our sustainability strategy, and make informed, data-driven decisions for our company.
Before we could set our targets for change, we needed to understand where we stood. With that goal in mind, we mapped our global operations to capture more accurate data regarding our energy usage, waste-management practices, and logistics impact. This allowed us to better establish our starting point and more effectively plan our road ahead.
Once we had a clearer picture of our goals, we developed our CHARGE framework to help guide our companywide decision-making processes for identifying initiatives and managing our emissions. CHARGE is tailored to Smith’s unique position in the electronics industry and was strongly informed by insights gleaned from our CDP responses. Over the past year, we have developed the six core principles behind CHARGE and begun to put the framework into action.
Our work with CDP also lays the groundwork for the next phase of our reporting journey. We aligned our sustainability approach with other global standards and frameworks, such as the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, ensuring that our efforts contribute to a shared and expansive vision for a sustainable future. In 2026, we plan to prepare our first annual sustainability report based on recommendations from the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD). This report will build upon our CDP questionnaire results and evaluation, with a more in-depth focus on governance and strategies informed by scenario analysis. As we take this next step, we will be providing our stakeholders with even greater clarity on how we are building a sustainable and resilient business for the future.
Utilizing the CDP platform strengthens our role as a reliable supply chain partner. Many of our customers use CDP to assess the sustainability efforts of the key players in their supply chain. In providing detailed and easily accessible information about our efforts in this area, we help them see and understand our commitment to transparency as they work toward their sustainability goals. They will be better equipped to set and follow through on their sustainability efforts with a supply chain partner they can rely on to match their ethos.
This collaborative effort built on data transparency helps reinforce the importance of environmental consciousness across the industry and allows our customers to better meet their needs. Our CDP disclosures open doors for joint sustainability initiatives, making it easier for us to connect with companies that share our values. And as more companies see these collaborations succeed and foster valuable relationships, they too will want to build partnerships that raise the importance of sustainability. In the end, we will be helping all of our supply chain partners as they join us in ensuring our industry creates positive impacts on the environment.
By continuing to participate in the CDP disclosure program, we are building a stronger foundation for sustainability and developing long-term relationships across the supply chain. We are working with our OEM and hyperscaler partners to find new and collaborative ways to reduce emissions, extend the lifecycles of products through reuse and remarketing, and advance the circular economy.
As we reflect on the progress we’ve made this year, we are energized for what is ahead. Smith is committed to driving measurable climate action, enhancing transparency, and creating shared value for our partners and the planet. Our CDP disclosures are just the beginning of our journey to embed sustainability into everything we do. We look forward to what comes next.
