It is an understatement to say that COVID-19 has continued to cause major disruptions to school systems around the United States. While it remains unknown when students will be returning to their desks for in-person learning, Smith offered a bit of stability to local students during these uncertain times.
Ahead of the upcoming first day of class, Smith recently donated 40 ASUS Chromebooks to The HUB, a school in Houston for neurodiverse teenagers and young adults.
“As we were making plans to reopen our school in the safest way possible, we realized that all students would need their own Chromebooks so that they would not have to share,” said Colleen “Coach” Russo, Co-Founder and Executive Director of The HUB. “This will add an extra layer of safety, and, if the need to go remotely arises, every student will have access to the tools they need to be successful.”
“Our wonderful friends at Smith jumped right on this mission and supplied us with 40 new Chromebooks,” Coach added. “This is such a blessing to The HUB, the HUBsters, and their families!”
Our partnership with The HUB goes back many years.
“We love working with The HUB,” said Patti Everitt, Smith’s HR & Recruiting Manager. “We have worked alongside the students and staff for years; among my favorite projects is making sandwiches and assembling sack lunches for our local homeless community together. We are honored to donate these Chromebooks to their students and help make the transition into this uncharted territory a little easier for them.”
The HUB is a school in Houston, where Smith is headquartered, that offers tailored education programs for the neurodiverse, including those with autism. In addition to working together on philanthropic endeavors, Smith also proudly provides mentorship opportunities for students from The HUB and employs recent graduates of the school.
