Smith was especially proud to once again team up with DePelchin Children’s Center this year to provide useful and comforting everyday supplies to 80 foster children in the Houston area.
“Unfortunately, the pandemic has created more uncertainty in the ever-changing world of children in the foster care system,” said Patti Everitt, Smith’s HR and recruiting manager, who managed this CSR initiative for the third year in a row. “Our employees had the opportunity to contribute some tangible personal items, which will help create a sense of stability for children who crave a feeling of home.”
These kids often move from home to home with hardly anything to call their own. It’s a stressful situation made worse by the anxieties and challenges caused by the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
Funded by donations from employees in our Houston locations, Smith purchased enough supplies to give 80 children duffel bags filled with warm blankets, haircare supplies, toothbrushes, and stuffed animals – all things that will provide comfort and security during this uncertain time.
Since Smith began donating care packages to DePelchin in 2017, employees have raised enough to help more than 200 Houston-area children, and we look forward to future opportunities for collaboration and giving back.
