Smith Donates Over 2,000 Bottles of Hand Sanitizer

Organizations in Houston and Hong Kong will distribute the bottles to people in need to help protect them from the novel coronavirus.

Smith recently donated 2,100 bottles of hand sanitizer to organizations in Houston and Hong Kong in an effort to help reduce the spread of COVID-19. Baptist Oi Kwan Social Service (BOKSS) in Hong Kong, where Smith’s Asian distribution center is located, received 1,000 bottles, and another 1,100 were donated to Star of Hope in Houston, home of Smith’s global headquarters.

“We are always looking for new ways to support our local communities,” said Patti Everitt, Smith’s HR & Recruiting Manager. “We are proud to do our part to help others stay healthy and safe during the COVID-19 pandemic.”

BOKSS provides a wide range of social services to low-income adults, children, and families in Hong Kong. The hand sanitizer bottles were included in care packages given to women and families in need. The packages also contained nonperishable food, masks, and other disinfectant products.

“Baptist Oi Kwan Social Service provides important services to the Hong Kong community with support from many stakeholders like Smith,” said Chloe Chow Oi Ting, Service Head (Children, Youth and Family Services) at BOKSS. “These care packages will help families get through this unprecedented situation safely.”

Star of Hope provides shelter, programming, and other services to homeless and transient men, women, and children in the greater Houston area. Isaac Portillo, Volunteer Liaison with Star of Hope, said the organization will distribute the bottles of hand sanitizer to residents in their facilities. Additionally, they plan to travel to different homeless communities in Houston to give away the remaining bottles.

“Thank you for partnering with us and giving hope together,” said Portillo.
