A recent HBJ recognition highlights Smith’s steps toward building one of Houston’s best places to work.
Smith was recently named a finalist in the large-company category on the Houston Business Journal’s Best Places to Work list. To earn this achievement, more than 50% of our Houston-based employees completed a long-form survey about our company culture and their work experience at Smith. The responses were overwhelmingly positive and helped position Smith as one of the Best Places to Work in Houston. Maintaining and fostering a healthy and rewarding company culture have remained core values for Smith since our founding in 1984. While Houston serves as our worldwide headquarters, we believe that each of our 17 global offices serves as a direct extension of our brand and culture. Smith is proud to offer our employees across the Americas, APAC, and EMEA regions opportunities for professional growth and development to build a better corporate environment and ensure our customers continue to receive the highest quality service.
Results from the survey identified a few culture trends at Smith that we believe are representative across all our global offices.
Many members of our management and leadership teams have been working at Smith for decades. By implementing a culture where employees are supported, rewarded, and provided growth opportunities, our team members stay at Smith because of the investments our company has made in them. Between continuously improving our proprietary trading platform to enhancing our state-of-the-art quality labs and operational hubs in Houston, Hong Kong, and Amsterdam, Smith never stops evolving to meet the needs of our people and the industries we serve.
“A lot of Smith’s successes can be attributed to the focus we place on our employees and the relationships we’ve developed with them,” said Patti Everitt, HR & Recruiting Manager. “To continue to invest in our people, places, and processes at Smith means to strive for excellence so that we can provide the best customer service and quality control in the industry.”
Smith has a very active CSR (corporate social responsibility) initiative in place in Houston and our other global offices. We’re proud of our employees volunteering their time and effort to give back in their local communities through food and toy drives, fundraisers, donating their time serving underprivileged children, and other community-service events.
We’re grateful for the recognition during a pandemic year that has been difficult for many of our friends, colleagues, and trading partners. We look forward to another amazing year in 2022!
