HOUSTON, TX (Sept. 16, 2024) –- Smith, a leading global distributor of electronic components and semiconductors, today announces that Thuy Tran, Chief Risk Officer, has been named among the winners of the 2024 Women in Supply Chain award from Supply & Demand Chain Executive and Food Logistics. The award recognizes female supply chain leaders and executives whose accomplishments, mentorship, and examples set a foundation for women in all levels of a company’s supply chain network.
Thuy has been recognized under the Workforce Innovator category, which pays tribute to female leaders’ efforts in supply chain education and workforce development that help others build a better workforce.
“Thuy consistently operates with a high level of character and integrity and is a fierce defender of the law,” said Marc Barnhill, Chief Executive Officer at Smith. “She always advocates for fair and ethical business policy, and her counsel and guidance are instrumental to the success of our organization. Congratulations on this well-deserved recognition.”
Thuy joined Smith’s two-person Legal department in 2000 as Associate General Counsel. Eight years later, she was promoted to General Counsel. During her 24 years at Smith, she has built a world-class legal team with ten employees across Houston, Hong Kong, and Amsterdam––at a time in which international trade compliance has leaped to the forefront of global business discourse. As Chief Risk Officer, Thuy oversees the company’s worldwide legal, compliance, and audit functions and helps identify, assess, and mitigate potential risks to business operations and financial strategy.
“Every year, this award continues to amaze me. But this year especially, it’s all about the quality of the submissions,” said Marina Mayer, Editor-in-Chief of Food Logistics and Supply & Demand Chain Executive and Co-Founder of the Women in Supply Chain Forum. “These women are doing remarkable things for their communities, organizations, and teams and are paving the way for future young female leaders to be a part of an industry that’s making a difference.”
Past Women in Supply Chain awardees from Smith include Minji Hong, President, APAC; Terry Fu, Senior Vice President of Operations and Quality, APAC; Jennifer Kabbara, President, Americas; and Megan Pedigo, Vice President of Global Supply Chain Assurance.
